In the summer of 08’ I commissioned 3 local teens from my area to use as subjects for a photo session. Coney Island on a Saturday early afternoon. What I didn’t know about Coney Island was how crowded this location becomes on any given weekend. It was a challenge for a new photographer as myself to make images that look like a photo session without capturing the crowds in the beach. I started looking for backgrounds and little corners where we could shoot… But to no avail. The day was spent in location hunting and trying to get a decent image. At a final moment frustrated, giving up I decided to just shoot no matter if people were getting in the way or showing up in the background of the image. It dawned on me… Shoot images that are closely tight to the subject only focusing on them and blow out the background. With that said, and thousands of beach goers behind my models… I just shot and got this image.
